Job Description

The Data Science intern will work in a team environment under the guidance of senior Data Scientists to develop statistical, machine learning, and artificial intelligence solutions for GE Gas Power functional stakeholders. In this role, you will contribute to the development of modern machine learning, operational research, semantic analysis, and statistical methods for finding insight in large data sets and providing solutions to achieve business outcomes that are aligned to GE Gas Power value stream strategies.

Roles and Responsibilities:

As a Data Science intern, you will be part of a data science or cross-disciplinary team developing innovative solutions, typically involving large, complex data sets to achieve business value stream outcomes. These team will include statisticians, computer engineers, software developers, engineers, product managers, and functional stakeholders. In this role, the Data Science intern will be developing Natural Language Processing (NLP) capabilities for GE Gas Power contractual services agreements (CSA) terms and conditions analysis for Services Value Stream. You will:

  • Develop an integrated ML Cloud Infrastructure strategy across all domains and work with functional DT teams to design and operationalize the capability.
  • Work with stakeholders and functional DT teams to capture data and analytics requirements
  • Develop, verify, and validate analytics to address customer needs and opportunities.
  • Work alongside software developers and software engineers to translate algorithms into commercial grade products and services.
  • Work in technical teams in development, deployment, and application of applied analytics, predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics.
  • Work with data engineers on data quality assessment, data cleansing and data analytics
  • Generate reports, annotated code, and other projects artifacts to document, archive, and communicate your work and outcomes.
  • Communicate methods, findings, and hypotheses with stakeholders.


  • Students minimum at 3rd year of University, studying technical disciplines (primary IT)
  • Proven academic excellence throughout their educational career, showing evidence of being on-track for a degree in a quantitative discipline: Computer Science/ Physics/ Management Information Systems/ Mathematics /Engineering preferred.
  • Fluent in English
  • Willing to work full-time during summer and min. 20h/week during academic year

Desired Characteristics

  • Technology enthusiast. Passion/aptitude for both software and information technology. Up to date with current industry standards, trending software and information technology development tools.
  • Leadership experience inside and/or outside the classroom. Extra initiatives/engagements in student organizations is a plus
  • Communicative & open- minded. Good written and verbal communication skills
